This one’s for brilliant creatives who know they’re capable of more.Hitting a ceiling is one of the most uncomfortably felt experiences professionally. Maybe you’ve hit one right now and you’re wondering, “What the heck am I supposed to do now?” Hitting a ceiling feels like a slow roller coaster, steadily chugging along, until one day, it descends—rapidly and all at once. Suddenly, the saturation dials right down, with only enough colour to keep you recognising each day. Conversations with your peers take a turn, and suddenly it’s less about what cool things you’re creating, and more about what your manager isn’t doing. And the work you once loved feels repetitive and pointless… What if I told you that all of that was a good thing? That hitting a ceiling is actually a feedback system letting you know something’s changed in you; that your priorities have shifted. (I did a post about these symptoms and what to do about it here.) Without definition and self-awareness, your priorities remain buried in your subconscious. Your body and environment are signalling you you’re ready for a change—for growth. What kind of change is up to you to define. But the more you voice it, the more likely it is you’ll find it. It doesn’t hit you as a beam of light one day, it comes as a result of constant pursuit. The people who are most likely to discover their purpose are the ones searching for their place or believe there is a better way. Constantly searching and questioning keeps you on the move, trying new things, investigating, experimenting, and building. They’re not fearless—far from it. They just have something stronger than fear that drives them. You’ll see these people rise through the ranks, doing what they love, and never satisfied. I could go on and on about how to find purpose, but the main thing I want to get across today is something you’re going to reject… Your workplace is the best place to discover your purpose. Despite what you may think, your purpose won’t be found “out there”. You’re discovering it right now. With every disagreement, rejection, and reprimand, you’re waking up to what you stand for. And the work you should be doing is what brings you joy and the people you do it for. If you want to know what weird work circumstances I found my purpose in, read my blog article. If you’re looking to level up, you will. If you want to discover your purpose, you’re already doing it. If you capture and create as you go, you’ll be amazed at what topics, themes, and ideas you constantly circle. I believe magical things occur when you speak your truth out in the open. Your brain cogs start turning and sparks start to flitter in your heart. If you want to get something off your chest in a safe space, I can offer you my ears and a fresh perspective. We have everything we need within us, but we often need each other to see it. I have clients that drop in once every few months for something like that, or more regularly with a specific outcome in mind. I’m not a counsellor—I’m not going to find the root cause of your fears. I’m a coach—I listen to what you’re telling me and reflect back what’s obvious to me about it, guiding you along the path. Judgement-free and playfully. If you're curious and willing, you can book a time to chat here. Stay weird, |
